  • English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour are on the extreme south end of Antigua, and take their names from the natural deep water harbours found there.  The British Royal Navy used English Harbour as their base on the island starting in the 1700s, and the old battlements and fortifications can still be found in various locations in the harbour and on the hillsides surrounding it.

This area is a world-class destination for boating and yachting.  Both English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour are home to some of the finest yachts on the planet.  The crews of these boats can be found in the area’s bars and restaurants, and will offer up tales of their world travels over a cold beer or hot burger.

Nelson’s Dockyard sits in English Harbour, and is the site of the old British Navy base.  Today it is one of the premier tourist destinations on the island, and has a historical center, with tours given several times daily.  The dockyard is named after Admiral Horatio Nelson of the British Navy, who was based there starting in 1784.
